Grandma Hall’s Peach Pudding Surprise

 

 

Sooo, what’s the surprise you ask? .. it don’t taste like pudding!! Haha This recipe dates back from the great depression in the 1930’s. My grandma was thoughtful enough to keep this gem in the family.  I’ve always considered this to be a cobbler but my aunt, Chippy, says it’s not. She’s been cooking longer than me so I believe her! ha Either way, this is the BEST dessert on the planet topped with Ice Cream!

 


INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups Slice Peaches, drained.
  • 3/4 cup of Sugar
  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 1/2 cup of Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 cup Flour

Topping

  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 cup of Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°

  1. Place Peaches in the bottom of a 13×9 inch baking dish.
  2. Combine sugar and butter and set aside.
  3. In separate Bowl.. mix together salt , baking powder and flour.
  4. Combine the two mixtures.
  5. Add milk. mix well.
  6. Now pour batter evenly over the peaches and set aside
  7. Now it’s time to make the topping
  8. Combine, sugar, cornstarch and salt and shift evenly over the batter and peaches.
  9. Bring to boil water and Vanilla and carefully add it over the entire dish.
  10. Bake for 40-45 minutes until top is golden brown.

NOTES:

  • The original recipe called for more sugarI but I don’t recall it being THAT sweet growing up so I adjusted the amount.
  • Serve with Vanilla Ice Cream!
